Peter Wright
Peter Wright
Vice President, Human Resources - BP

Peter was born in London into a military family and spent the early part of his life growing up in Asia Pacific. After attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1973 and graduating as the winner of the Queen's Medal for Best Officer Cadet, he was commissioned into the British Army. He served as an Army Officer in various parts of the world between 1974 and 1985. During this time he acquired a History degree from Cambridge University.

In 1985 Peter decided to change careers and enter the business world. He spent 10 years in Unilever during a time of significant change for the company. After initial experience in a manufacturing environment he spent his last three years working in the Unilever Corporate Head Office working on projects such as the establishment of Unilever in China, the formation of Lever Europe and the rapid growth of the Personal Products division in the USA.

Senior HR positions followed in Allied Domecq, Korn Ferry International, where he was part of a team put together to take the company through an IPO and Merill Lynch Mercury Asset Management. Peter was appointed to the position of Vice President of Human Resources for Estee Lauder International in 2000. Based in New York he was a member of the senior management team responsible for the international growth of the cosmetics giant.

Most recently he returned to the UK in July 2005 to take up his current role as Vice President Human resources for the 73,000 people who make up the Refining and Marketing Division of BP plc.

He has been a keen sportsman all his life playing rugby and cricket at representative level.

He is in the process of writing his first book entitled "Change Management is Dead Long Live Managing Change"

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. His experience has been in both the public and commercial arena with most recent experience in central govt and a leading financial institution. He is a family man with his wife Angela and three boys and has an active life in his local church

Mike Vessey
Mike Vessey
Vice President Consulting - SHL UK and Ireland

Mike graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Politics and History from Lancaster University in 1989. He then completed a post-graduate Diploma in Personnel Management in 1991. Mike is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Prior to joining SHL, Mike spent eight-and-a-half years with London Underground and London Transport, working in many different roles including: training and recruitment, front-line management and in-house consultancy. Immediately prior to joining SHL Mike worked in Employee Development, designing and delivering development centres, managing graduate recruitment and development programmes and a range of strategic HR projects.

During his time at SHL Mike has managed a number of large and complex global and European projects for blue chip clients across a range of leadership, talent management, and assessment and development solutions. He has project managed several large scale European and global projects for, among others, KPMG, MCI, DHL, American Express, Colgate-Palmolive, Department for Work and Pensions and Tesco.

Mani Patel is a Director with Parc Group's Recruitment Process Outsourcing division - Parc Resource Management. He has over ten years experience in recruitment solutions working with some of the industries major players

His work has spanned consultancy, project management, online solutions, campaign management, retained search and managed outsourced solutions. He has designed and set up account management teams & response management centres to enable the smooth running of volume and specialist outsourced agreements which cover both direct and indirect candidate sourcing and selection to identify the best talent.

His expertise lies in analysing current recruitment processes, identifying areas of improvement and then reviewing the merits of various solutions and the benefits that these bring. Mani has helped clients develop bespoke RPO models that not only to solve their current issues, but also provides a platform which aligns their recruitment capability to their strategic objectives.

With over 17 years consulting and management experience, Bruce has a deep skill set centred around Human Resources, Organisational Development and Change Management. He has benefited from working across a number of public and private sector industries, and is currently a Senior Consultant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers with the principle focus being people and change within the Financial Services sector.

During his career, which has included Senior roles with Standard Life, KPMG Consulting and more recently with AEGON where he was Head of Organisational Development and interim HR Director, Bruce has worked across strategic and operational roles, and managed a range of high level programmes, including development and implementation of people management strategies, HR transformation and corporate culture change programmes.

All have been linked directly to business objectives and resulted in improved operational and financial performance.

Education and Training

Andy has a BSc in Psychology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. He is certified in a variety of individual and team assessment tools and is trained in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques and a member of the Association of Business Psychologist.

Andy has presented at the Executive Grapevine, various HR Leader forums on Succession planning, Talent Management and HR Transformation and contributed articles to such publications as Whitehall and Westminster World.

Bernard Buckley

Bernard Buckley is the HR Director for Cable&Wireless Worldwide and a member of the UK Board. Prior to joining C&W Bernard ran his own interim management business for over 10 years. His earlier career was spent in financial services including the London Stock Exchange.

He has broad general management experience gained in organisations going through major change and business transformation as a result of mergers, acquisitions, outsourcing and insourcing. In addition to his HRD role, he also has accountability for Corporate Social Responsibility and is an executive sponsor of some of C&W

Until recently Becky was employed as the Director of Leadership and Development at DSG International where she was for almost two years. Her role was a Group global role looking at the active management of the senior management talent pool and the development of coherent senior leadership development strategies across the Group. Whilst at DSGi Becky also successfully introduced a group approach to talent and performance management. During her tenure her role also expanded to take on all matters relating to training and development across the group

Prior to joining DSGi Becky was Head of Learning and Development at easyJet where her role was to develop a Learning and Development strategy to support the businesses strategic plans. Here her key areas of focus were Talent and Succession Management, Management Development, Leadership Development and the development of the easyJet Academy. Also pivotal were the embedding of the orange culture and values through some key initiatives, for example the introduction of a behavioural framework and the introduction of Pulse an employee engagement survey which helped in the quest to drive the vision of the business

Prior to easyJet, Becky was employed as the Head of Learning and Development for Safeway Stores Plc. Becky was employed by Safeway for over 16 years and worked across all areas of HR during this time. Becky was also very involved in preparing the business for the acquisition by Morrison’s and during her latter 18 months had spoken at many key events

Becky is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has a MA in Human Resource Management. Becky is married to Michael and with her free time she loves to spend time in Pembrokeshire and loves riding her Harley Davidson

Nicola Scott

Senior Managing Consultant - Unipart Expert Services

Nicola is currently enjoying working on a number of complex change programmes for blue chip clients across a range of industries. Her expertise lies in shaping strategies to ensure engagement of all employees in client organisations in order to realise targeted business benefits. Irrespective of the nature of the change programmes upon which businesses embark, whether in support of an IT systems implementation or a lean transformation of process, Nicola believes that success is a function of alignment of vision and strategy with company values and policies. Leadership plays a pivotal role in how the population of the company experience change and Nicola enjoys working with leadership teams to establish the standards necessary to deliver transformation.

Amongst the roles held prior to coming to consultancy, Nicola was the Head of Change Management and Working Structures for BMW UK Manufacturing. Based at the MINI production plant, Nicola was responsible for strategic planning; training and development; reward and recognition and employee satisfaction efforts. She was the driving force behind the cultural change programme that won recognition in the form of the People Management Award 2003. Nicola is an engineer by education. She worked for GKN for nearly 10 years where she held positions including Production Manager in Italy; Quality Engineer for Asia Pacific (covering 14 auto component facilities) and also joined the Corporate Audit team allowing her to focus on aerospace components and metal processing industries.

Outside of work, Nicola enjoys martial arts and boxing based fitness training and salsa dancing. Her other main passion in life is travel.
